Why Custom Profiles Matter

The Ricoh GR IIIx’s U1/U2/U3 modes allow you to dial in different configurations for rapid switching. Whether you’re adapting to changing street scenes, chasing creative shots, or simply want the camera to “just work” in your favorite style, these profiles let you be prepared for anything.

U1: Everyday Autofocus Versatility

Mode: Standard autofocus

Priority: Aperture priority (A mode)

Front Dial: Controls aperture

Why: Perfect for general shooting and travel. If I want flexibility and quick response in everyday situations, this setup keeps things simple but effective. Just turn on, compose, and shoot.

U2: Snap Focus Mode

Mode: Snap focus (pre-set to F9 and 3.5m)

Adjustment: Quickly change focus distance via the ADJ button

Front Dial: Adjusts aperture for different depth of field

Why: For street photography, speed is key. This mode gives me an instant deep focus zone—just point and shoot with confidence that everything will be sharp within the snap focus range. check the left meter to check the green area in focus.

U3: Slow Shutter

Mode: Slow shutter (shutter speed priority or manual)

ND Filter: ON for daylight use, Off for the night

ISO: Locked at 100 to force the camera at a low shutter speed

Aperture: Stopped down to F9 or above, easily changeable with the front dial

Why: For those moments where I want motion blur by following a moving subject or dreamy long exposures. With the Integrated ND filter of the Ricoh, I can slow things down even in bright conditions for creative shots.
